Need Advice!

Last week our washing machine died. We have had the washer and dryer for close to 25 years and have spent very little maintaining them. Now washers and dryers have changed a lot over the years. We would like to get one of the front loading washers that are energy efficient. Does anyone have a set they like or know which kind we should or should not buy? This is very exciting for me! If this set last 25 years this may possibly be the last washer and dryer we ever buy!

If I could choose any washer it would probably be one similar to this one: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_02628862000P?vName=Appliances&cName=Washers+%26+Dryers&sName=Front-Load+Washers . It's pretty expensive, but it sure does look cool!

hmmmm.... not sure! mine are not very fancy. i would just want one that did large loads, but you may not need that as much as me.

We have the Kenmore Elite HE4t washer and dryer, similar to this, just the previous model:
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_02647089000P?vName=Appliances&cName=Washers+%26+Dryers&sName=High+Efficiency+Washers

I really love it, but if I had it to do over again, I would get something like this:

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_02627072000P?vName=Appliances&cName=Washers+%26+Dryers&sName=Top-Load+Washers

ONLY because once the load starts, you can't just toss something in that you may have forgotten, because being front loaders, the door locks. Also, the cycles on my HE washer are very long, even the "basic" settings.

Good luck choosing! How exciting!

What do you do when your Washer and Dryer breaks... slap her and tell her to get back to work!

first of all, I hope your new ones last for 25 years AND that you need to buy more. ;)

We own the Whirlpool Duet washer & dryer. We LOVE them. It's our 2nd set -- we left the first in NY when we sold our townhouse.

I love that we can do huge loads of laundry. That the dryer doesn't take too much longer than the washer. That I don't have to worry about setting water levels. That I don't have to use much detergent. That they are pretty. ;)

I love, Love, LOVE them.

Can you tell? ;)

If you do buy the front loaders, be sure to check for a Rebate from your water company and/or PSE. ;)

So?! Did you decide yet? I'm dying to know!

Not yet! We are trying to redo the laundry room floor and paint first. I appreciate all of the advice. So far we are leaning towards one of the Kenmore front loading models or one of the Whirlpool front loading models. Our last was a Whirlpool and it lasted forever. I got sick today after doing some errands and have been laying on the couch most of the afternoon! Yuck!!

our friends just bought the whirlpool duet steam washer & dryer and love them.

At our apartment we have the whirlpool front loaders but they are the industrial ones, not as pretty as the picutre you show.

If I were to purchase a washer/dryer right now, I would choose these or something similar.

The front loading washer doesn't bother us at all, and it washes & dries much more quickly than our last ones.

Good luck & let us all know what you bought.

What's really going to happen is you are going to wait so long and you will be so sick of going to the laundry mat that you honestly won't care what you get as long as you can do your laundry in your own house without all the riff raff watching you fold your underwear. HA.. True though..
