Peaches and Pears

This is what usually keeps me busy in August. This year I was only able to can a couple batches of peaches and three batches of pears. Home canned fruits are so flavorful! It's hard to go back to commercially canned fruits. And you do get a little more for your money. Mark and I don't eat as much as we used to. So I wonder why I keep canning. I think, mostly out of habit, and I can use as little sugar as I like and no preservatives. Besides, I like having my cupboards full, and we have several grandkids, VT/HT families and neighbors who love them so we give some away!

Yes Catie LOVES those peaches. She's not the only one who was sad when I smashed the jar on the floor! :(

YUM!
i love home canned peaches and pears!
i've only done it once myself years ago. it was quite the process.
about the only thing i do now is freezer jam. it's just so much yummier and cheaper than the freezer jam from the store!
but doesn't it feel so good to see all those jars lined up on your shelves?

store canned peaches and pears don't come CLOSE to your yummy canned ones! Yummy! I love em both, but ethan & audrey just love the pears. i wonder if david would eat them or if the slippery texture would scare him away!?

There is something addicting about canning peaches and pears. Of course now that I did all that hard work I don't want anyone to eat them. I just want them to look pretty on my shelves.

I love canning! Growing up I used to can with my mom all the time. We'd always do Pears because we had 3 pear trees. We made apple chips from our apple tree, but of course those were dehydrated. And of course I can't forget homemade canned stewed tomatoes. Yummy! I still have 3 bottles left from canning a few years ago, and I'm holding on to them for dear life. I just don't know when I'll get to can again.

Good for you!

Wow!!!! I have canned plenty in my day. Now those empty jars just take up room in my garage. Shame on me!!! They look wonderful. Great Job Jenny!
